Man-E-Faces from Masters of the Universe Origins

This blog is quickly becoming all about toys, and tbh I don't really feel to bad about that. Now is kind of the greatest time to be alive if you're a toy collector like me. All the stuff that was cool in the 80s and 90s is back now, and it's 20 times better.

Masters of the Universe Origins for example is one of the greatest toy lines I've ever collected. They remain true to the original designs but update them in subtle ways. The changes they do make improve upon the originals.

Anyway, this Man-E-Faces figure is great. Everyone should buy them.

Horror Madballs Series 2 Unboxing & Review

Hello folks! Today we're taking a look at series 2 Horror Madballs from Kid Robot. Included is Pinhead, Pennywise, Chucky, and The Fiend (from the Misfits.) Madballs are my favorite retro toy to collect second only to Masters of the Universe. I know there's a series of Horror Madballs Keychains coming from Kid Robot as a follow up to these, which will also include characters such as Gizmo, Spike (from Gremlins,) Tiffany from Bride of Chucky, and some others. Here's hoping they include these guys in proper Madball form for series 3.

Zoloworld Legends of Darkness Vampire and Death Unboxing and Review

Hello everyone! This week we're looking at the Vampire and Death 5.5 MOTU style action figures, from Zoloworld's "Legends of Darkness" line. These are modern mass produced figures for the adult collector made in a vintage style, as homages to Remco's classic lines such as Warrior Beasts. These in particular are homages to the obscure "Speclatron" line which nowadays go for thousands of dollars.

When I say that I'm not kidding. Go to Ebay and look up "Speclatron" and you'll see the ridiculous prices the vintage figures sell for. These are a much more affordable alternative, and are worth owning in their own right.

Sonic Drive-In Madballs "Monster Squirters" Fast Food Premium Unboxing and Review

At the end of 2019 Sonic Restaurants released a series of Madballs as fast food premiums for their kids meals. Included are versions of Dust Brain, Screaming Meemie, Occulus Orbus, and an exclusive called Cherry Limeaid. Madballs are probably my second favorite toy to collect (behind Masters of the Universe) so I had to get them all.

They're pretty cool as Madballs go, slightly smaller than the retail toys. The cool thing is they are new sculpts based on the original design, and look to be more detailed. The exclusive character Cherry Limeaid is based on Sonic's signature drink apparently, while it's always great to get more Madball characters it would've been nice to get more than one.

Overall I usually don't really collect fast food kids toy premiums like this, but for Madballs I'll make an exception. I got this whole set pretty cheap on Ebay so this isn't worth a lot of money (yet) but I can see Cherry Limeaid going up in value.

Troll Force "Machine Man" MOTU Knock-Off Unboxing and Restoration

Hello folks! So I got my mitts on a "Machine Man" figure from the Troll Force action figure line (we looked at the "Green Yuk" and "Black Ninja" from this line in a previous video.) Troll Force was a knock-off of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Specifically, it uses parts from a different knock-off line called "Galaxy Warriors," (so this is a knock-off of a knock-off.) So we'll do an unboxing and a little bit of restoration on this one as the hair is completely shot. I'm not really too much into collecting knock-off/bootleg figures like this, but they can be pretty cool sometimes.

MOTU Knock-Offs Galaxy Heroes & Troll Force Unboxing and Review

Hello everyone. So the Masters of the Universe were a very successful toyline back in the day. You can't have a toyline that makes a lot of money without getting a lot of imitators. One of the most extensive of the MOTU knock offs was a line called "Galaxy Warriors." The thing about Galaxy Warriors was that the parts (arms, legs, heads, weapons, etc) were continuously recasted and reused in other knock off lines. So the two toys we're looking at today are knock-offs of Galaxy Warriors, called "Galaxy Heroes" and "Troll Warriors." Hence, they are knock-offs of a knock-off. Dontcha love this stuff?

Anyway, we're looking at "Triton" from the Galaxy Heroes line, and "The Green Yuk" and "Black Ninja" from the Troll Warriors line.

Enjoy!

Masters of the Universe Classics Slush Head Unboxing and Review

Hello everyone. So as anyone who reads my blogs or watches my videos should know by now, I am a massively huge super gigantic fan of Masters of the Universe. As a kid I had almost all of them, including several of the rare ones - The Sorceress, Scare Glow, the Eternia Towers, the works. So it came to great surprise to me to find Mattel released updated versions of the original toys. The cool thing about MOTU Classics is that the line also included characters from She-Ra Princess of Power, as well as the New Adventures of He-Man, which is where Slush Head is from.

So anyway, I got into this line a little late in the game, which means I now get to buy all of these at super inflated collectors prices. So I've made it a point to not go crazy buying every single one of these, instead focusing only on key characters that I really want.

Which brings us to Slush Head. I was already getting a bit too old for toys when New Adventures came out (or so I thought...) I do remember the show and I thought it was pretty good, but by this point I  was already in middle school and wasn't playing with toys anymore, so I'm looking at these characters with unbiased eyes. The figure itself looks good and has great detail. We lose articulation at the head and waist, but all the other standard points are there. One thing I'm disappointed with is the metal tentacles, which are not bendable and attach in a flimsy way. It would have been much better to have these be of the rubber "bendie" type with a wire inside.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this figure, it looks great on the shelf and fits in with the other classics figures well. Expect to see more of these reviews as I build up a large collection of these.

Thundercats Savage World Series 2 Unboxing and Review Funko

Hello everyone. For this video we're taking a look at Series #2 of the Thundercats Savage World figures, featuring Tygra, Monkian, Jackalman, and Cheetara (which is the one everyone wanted.) Included are some comparisons with the series 1 figures. I'm happy to say they turned out really well, and look great on the shelf next to my MOTU toys.

For those who have been keeping up, we've gotten the following in the line, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Thundercats Series #1 and #2, Horror Figures, as well as the tangentially related Son of Zorn and DC comics "Primal Age" lines. There was also supposed to be a Conan the Barbarian line which looks to be cancelled, which probably happened when Marvel bought back the Conan rights.

Sadly this looks like the end of the "Savage World" line for the time being, there doesn't look to be anything new happening for the rest of 2020, which is really sad considering there's at least another 30 or so Thundercats characters alone they could do (not to mention the other franchises.) Here's hoping that the line gets resurrected next year, I would love to see more of these one day.

Marvel Legends 80th Anv. Hulk vs. Wolverine 2-Pack Unboxing and Review - UCD Videos

So I got this one for Christmas and I've been hanging onto it until I had time to make an unboxing video. The main reason I wanted this one is for the Hulk, which is done is the style of Sal Buscema, who was the artist on the Hulk for over a decade (and still the best imo.) The head sculpt is spot on. There haven't been very many comic accurate figures of the Hulk recently, most of them are patterned after the movies. Which is great and everything, but they look like Mark Ruffalo. I don't want Mark Ruffalo on my shelf, I want the Hulk.

Anyway, this set is already starting to go up in price, so grab it while you can.

Accoutrements Bendy Monsters - Bendy Figure Review

Hi everyone. Today I'm reviewing some weird old bendy toys from a company called Accoutrements, which is either the same thing as or in business with Archie McPhee. (Archie McPhee is a company that puts out those weird horse masks that were popular a few years ago, along with the usual novelty gags like rubber chickens, whoopie cushions, bacon flavored mints, and so on.) Anyway this is a set that I completed a little while ago, and while this kind of thing isn't really worth much they are pretty hard to find. I've always loved strange vintage toys like this.

"Terror Toad" TMNT knock-off toy review

So I don't usually go for these types of knock-off toys, but they can be interesting sometimes. I'll pick them up if I see them. This particular one is famous in collector circles for having very little resemblance to the thing that it's knocking off.

Unknown Vintage Monster Toys

I've always loved stuff like this. A set of strange plastic monster toys I recently acquired. They're a few inches long, and look like those little prizes you'd get out of quarter machines at the supermarket, or maybe party favors.  Each one has a "clip" type backing. They look like they could be intended to be put into your shirt pocket, or perhaps used as bookmarks? Anybody know anything about them?

The Godzilla vs Jesus playset

Here's a little item I came across at the Wound and Wound toy company way, way, waaaay back in the day. The set came with a cheap, knock-off Godzilla figure, a bunch of generic army men, and a little Jesus figure that looked like a cake topper or something, as well as a plastic mat with terrain for them to fight on. The King of the Monsters versus the Kind of the Jews, who will win?

I think Godzilla would be in the ocean, and Jesus would change the water into wine, after which Godzilla would get drunk and pass out.

This particular toy is now the property of my pal Enshohoma, check out his artwork here.

Godzilla Bootleg Keshi Gachapon minifigures

In the late 90's I came across one of those capsule toy machines in a mall selling little monster figures. I've always had a thing for weird monster toys so I occasionally check these things out, even if I don't buy anything. But this time the figures looked familiar - they were Godzilla characters. Several dollars later I had (from what I could tell) was a full set.

These figures are about 1.5 inches tall, brightly painted, and are made of a hard solid plastic. I would come to learn years later that these are actually bootlegs of Japanese keshi figures. Apparently it's a tradition in Japan to release small scale toys of popular franchises, often sold in gachapon vending machines (which is what they call capsule machines that sell toys instead of candy in Japan.) The word "gachapon" comes from the sound effect the capsule makes as it falls after you put the quarter in.

Anyway, apparently these figures are actually bootleg recasts from figures that were made for a Godzilla board game in Japan. The figures came in multiple colors, as I have both a red and yellow Titanosaurus. There are Showa and Heisei versions of Godzilla. I know there also exists a King Cesar figure in addition to the ones I have. Also it appears the line may have been expanded a bit, as it also contains a Gamera figure, and a bipedal, winged dinosaur kaiju that could possibly be an Ultraman figure. There is also a smaller version of this winged figure that has a stamp built into it's base, which tells me there are probably other "stamp figures" of this type.

Enjoy!

All the figures in my personal collection.

He-Man MOTU M.U.S.C.L.E. custom figures

I try to not re-blog things here very often, but these things are freakin' awesome, and need to be shared with the world. M.U.S.C.L.E. figures, for those of you who don't know, are the Americanized version of a Japanese toyline called Kinkeshi, which are from an anime called Kinnikuman. The little toys were very popular back in the 80's, I had a few dozen myself. I also had like every He-Man figure ever back in the day, so to see the two of them in one from brings back the nostalgic geek force in severe overdrive.
